my maiden crash...

What is it with new motorists and their tendency to have accidents?
Back when they'd just gotten their licenses, many friends of mine would have an accident (Or accidents) shortly after.
Is it that we're too eager to ride around and get a little too cocksure of ourselves?
Well, my first accident happened 'bout 5 days ago.
And about time, too, according to the 'tradition' of we Sitiawan motorists.

It was Sunday night and I'd just left the newly-opened old folks home (Was there to do some community service).
I was fetching my |oupo and we were going for supper with a gang of friends.
But we had to go back to her home to get a helmet, so I went by another route instead of following the others.

I don't know, I guess I could have been showing off or maybe I was distracted with my thoughts, but I didn't see the dog until it was too late to brake.
Fortunately, I hadn't really accelerated yet and was still going at about 40kmph.
Unfortunately, that particular stretch of road didn't have streetlights and the dog was black coloured.

By the time my headlights showed me the dog's silhouette, I was about 2 metres away and it was too late.
As I jammed my foot on the brake and swerved, the thought that went through my mind was, "Cannot make it... Oh no,".
Just before I rammed into the dog, |oupo behind me started screaming.

In cartoons, they say that at your point of death, your life flashes in front of your eyes.
Well, the only thing that flashed in front of me at that moment was the fact that if I was gonna crash, I shouldn't have fetched my |oupo in the first place.
If I was gonna crash, it would have been much better if I was alone, so that I would be the only one to get into trouble and the only one to get hurt.

The dog was big; it loomed before my front wheel.
The bike connected with its middle and glanced off its behind.
I remember holding my breath as I fought to keep the bike steady.
Miraculously, miraculously, we didn't fall off.
The bike didn't overturn, the dog didn't chase after us and I managed to get it back into control.

The only effects of that accident was a bent gear pedal (Now already knocked back into place), awful bruises all along my left leg and a really, really shaky girl behind me.
I guess I should consider myse
lf lucky, eh?
